High hopes
Anticipation runs wild through my veins
The butterflies fly deep down every time
I unzip, click in, and push out.

Silent cheers
Unheard exclamations of encouragement
Reach the top as the starter says
Racer ready? Go when ready.

Tearful eyes
The rush of adrenaline taken away by the taste of snow
One’s dream of triumph turned into tragedy as soon as
I unzipped, clicked in, and pushed out.

I wrote this poem from personal experience. I am very active in my school ski team and when I fall or make a mistake I take it very personally.
