One Life Too Many
I’ll never forget the friendship we had.
(I could remember the scribbling of the pencil on a crumpled piece of paper.)
I’ll never forget when that friendship went bad.
(I ignored her phone call. That call could have saved her…)
I’ll never forget that dreadful night.
(I ignored the endless beeping of my phone. I’ll text her back later.)
I’ll never forget that horrible sight.
(I could hear the gun go off in the night, a cold, heartless whisper.)
I’ll never forget the body outlined in chalk so perfect and white.
(I could hear the bullet shells drop as death catches her falling body and kissed her.)
I’ll never forget the night you took your own life.
