They sit there
sick and full of pain
breathing machine pumping
heart-beat monitor beeping
sleeping
not so full of life but still there
eyes shoot open
take one more breath
grip your hand tightly
and the last breath slips and they fall back, back to a better place.

This is a great poem! It's very depressing up until the last two lines, where it seems that mercy is being granted. You demonstrate the sad end of such a life, and you also display wisdom by saying they 'fall back, back to a better place.'
