It’s not supposed to be like that;
Children should live their lives to the fullest,
Without fears of abrupt endings,
Schools should be sanctuaries
Instead of places of violence-

Water should be necessary for life
Instead of a cause of death,
And religion is meant to halt war
Not enforce it, not excuse it-

These lives are not supposed to be like that.

Parents should care for their children
Not ignore them, not exploit them,
Friends should laugh out loud
Not weep in each other’s arms-

They’re not supposed to be like that.

We know it exists,
We know its lives,
We know it’s wrong to let that thrive,

We know it’s not supposed to be like that.

This world needs love
To reach every corner
To bring every smile
And dry every tear-
