Wake up every morning--
We have school again
I was up late last night
Trying to stop thinking
About the homework,
The drama, the lies,
And the stress.
Why does life have to be such a mess?
Right now, we're in that stage where noone
Knows who they're supposed to be,
And they're trying to figure life out, but
Nobody takes us seriously, though we're going
Through a lot right now,
And music and quotes are our private
Escape, because sometimes we just want to
Get away
From the fake smiles, and the bad role models
Who everyone seems to look up to these days.
And high school's approaching
And I'm secretly hoping
That maybe I could just start new
Because right now we're caught
Between staying young
And growing up
And we just don't know what to do.
Everyone expects so much from us,
But we still want to let go and
Have fun.
So you see, it's actually quite difficult,
Very unpredictable,
And complicated to be
Thirteen

This poem is about how dramatic and stressful being thirteen really is.
