Above Us

I’ve known you for almost two years
And you’ve always been the same.
You make all your friends leave in tears
Just to make them be the one who’s lame.

I knew eventually it’d be my turn
To be the one with a broken heart,
But I promised myself that I would never crash and burn.

We used to always meet at one place
To walk to lunch together,
But now when you see me, you try and pick up your pace.

You used to always chat with me,
But now you just chat about me.
I can see you whispering and looking back
So that the things you’re saying can’t be heard.

I’ve seen you do this to your other friend
And once they started to cry, you just sent
Them away to abandonment.

With me, however, I stood my ground
And you were the one who ended up leaving.
I know that the things you’re saying
To those new friends of yours
Are probably cruel and not true,
But in my eyes, you’ll always be the fool.

Why have you got to be this way?
Make my reputation go astray?

I know that you think saying all those things makes you seem cool,
And that you think you’re above us somehow.
It may be that way with some fools,
But you’ll never push me down, then or now.

Another one of my friend's works. I asked their permission to publish this, of course, but they asked not to be named. :)
