His raven hair
His seaweed eyes
The way he smiles
At my disguise
His weathered face
His hardened look
The way he can't even
Decipher a book
True this,
He is a man of the sea
His square, proud chin
His blistered hands
The way he scoffs at those
Who dwell on land
His hawk-like vision
His searching gaze
The way he knew me
From the very first day
True this,
He is a man of the sea
He has no other love
No other passion
No other joy
Than in his precious,
His treasured ship.
There was a time
When I was young
When I had dreams of him
Every night
But now I know
As does he
True this,
He is a man of the sea
