She's lying on her side,
nose red, lips chapped, eyes scratchy.
There's a cough in her throat
that is supressed by sneezes
that shake her body as if she was overcome by a seizure.
She tosses and turns,
unable to find a comfortable position
for her sore body to lay in.
And I, as I sit across the room
in my own bed, watching her toss and turn,
I wish there was something I could do to help.
But I am not a doctor,
nor do I have magnificent healing powers.
My advice is advice learned from popular television shows.
So as she rolls onto her back and sneezes so hard that her body convulses,
I say "Bless you,"
as if that will help in any way.
