Drifting
In kindergarten,
I learned your name,
and you learned mine.
and we promised
never to forget.
In first grade,
we had our first fight,
but it was really
just a misunderstanding,
easily fixed.
And when I moved,
we became pen pals,
sending letters the old fashioned way,
to make sure we could still
recognize the other’s handwriting.
Remember when we used
to walk down to the school
late at night,
just to sit on the swings
and laugh at ourselves?
Now as we juggle life,
to find time for each other,
I go fishing
for shared interests.
Will I come up empty?
