Familiar arms that know me better than any,
you became my protector at my worst.
You held me tight against your steady heart,
squeezing as if you'd never let go all those months before.
And I surrendered to you, sobbing in your arms
with practiced silence that I'd learned so well.
I trembled with the weight of my world,
I hid the fear in my eyes against your chest,
and I finally let you see my tattered heart.
And still you were there, a light in the dark,
forever my best friend.
