The Face Behind the Mask
One question I've always
Wanted to ask
Is if there's another person
Behind your mask.
You look at me daily
With your beautiful eyes.
I have to wonder
Why it is your heart cries.
You go through each day
In some sort of haze.
Is this the way
You want to spend all your days?
You rarely sleep.
You rarely eat.
I can't believe
Your heart still beats.
You make me smile
But your face stays the same.
I've been with you a while
But I'm afraid it's a game.
Your shoulders droop.
Your back archs.
Your words loop.
Your eyes are dark.
The light slowly fades
From your beautiful face.
I start to cry,
For you've lost the race.
Your hand slowly slips
From its place grasped in mine.
Your life is over,
But you're still so divine.
