Remember Me

April 26, 2010
Remember the walks we took
Remember the stories I told
And remember how much I loved you.
Because from now until I perish,
I will be remembered as prisoner number 8,515,193

I will wear my David’s Star proudly
Even when they beat me,
Or call me a “Stupid Jew”
But when I cry, I will not wear my star proudly
And I have not been defeated, because I am still alive

Unlike my mother, father and two sisters
Who have took defeat in a gas chamber,

Tears are also a form of defeat,
I will not let my tears fall,
But will wear my identification number,
And David’s Star proudly,
Because the memory they keep will be enough

So,
Remember the poems I wrote
The friends I made,
And the boys I chased
Because from now until I die, I will not stop loving you,
While they beat me
And spit at my face,
I will keep the love I had for you in mind,
For you to simply remember me.
