That Gentle, Peaceful Day

Like glass,
the lake was,
on that gentle, peaceful day.
When man was at work, and children at play.

When the flowers relaxed, untouched by bees,
it seemed everything was at ease.
And the orange and green slowly mixed
to form the leaves on the trees.

The meadow was, for once, untouched, and left alone.
But not for long, they thought to themselves
as they slowly heard the bells
that came from the church in town.

For in the back of their heads they knew
that the trees would be destroyed,
the lake polluted,
and the flowers would be distributed.
But they quickly put that thought away
on that gentle, peaceful day.
