Hoofbeats,
their sound resounding,
in the damp morning air.
Ba-dum, ba-dum, ba-dum
Repeating over and over,
with that never changing rythem.
The sound I fall
asleep to at night.
The sound that keeps me
alive during the day.
Harmonious with my heart,
My horse's feet,
clinking along,
on the cold New York grass,
they are my adrenaline.
They give me freedom,
they let me feel and hear
what I cannot see,
releasing me from
my lonely cage of darkness.

The author's comments:
This is a poem about a blind girl experiencing cantering on her horse. She feels enslaved in the darkness of her mind and feels that riding is an escape.
