I walk in my room
And off to the side
Sits a little black book
With my past kept inside

It’s small and square
And only an inch thick
Once you open it and read it
You may get some kicks

I write down some thoughts
And some drawings too
About how the day went
And what I’ve gone through

At the end of the night
I’ll shut the book
But not before
I give it a last look

My friends, my family
Are all spoken of inside
Some good, some bad
The things I let slide

I consider the book
A companion, a friend
The one I can trust
And keep til the end

It’s who I was
And what makes me, me
As time goes by
Who knows where I’ll be

But I’ll jot down some notes
Some dates, some places
Read over the past
And remember old faces

It’s good to remember
And not to forget
Some past relationships
And friends that you met

It’s great to know
I have a friend like you
I come to vent
When unsure what to do

So I’ll put you back
Where you were found on the side
And give a small smile
Because I know I can confide.
