I’m from cold Illinois winters
Sticking out my tongue catching snowflakes
I’m from playing with my baby doll Polly Charlotte
My Barbies and MyScene
Puff, my dog, yapping at the doorbell
In my little brick Berwyn house

I’m from sleeping with my blanket
My mimi
Soft and comforting
I’m from my mom and dad tucking me in
From rainy nights and warm ones
And otter pops when I’m sick

I’m from blistering Arizonan summers
Eating lettuce and having crab boils
My dogs Pouf and Junior running around
I’m from dancing to ‘N Sync, Britney Spears, and The Spice Girls
From Monsoon Season
And playing at the park with my crazy friends

I’m from my granny’s Buttercup Farm
From cats running free
“You only get one life. Live it”
I’m from my granddaddy’s giant Filipino clam
The one everyone wants

I’m from going to concerts
My musical taste refined to
Tokio Hotel, Paramore, and NeverShoutNever
I’m from watching TV Monday nights
Making fun of the Bachelorette
While petting my cat Larry T. Fishman

I’m from my crazy, wonderful family
Always there
I’m from my hyper, funny friends
Who know how I’m feeling
The are my safety net
This is where I’m from
