As time marches through the days,
to its side flock many men
of broken hopes and shattered dreams
looking for refuge.

And yet they will not find it there,
among the lost and broken
victims of a savage past
enslaved to their despair.

Lurking in life's corners dark,
they seek to claw a life
out of the grime
the deep dark black
and build one
for themselves.

And yet they can't -- they won't, they don't --
they remain forever broken.
Dashed upon life's steepest cliffs.
In swift pursuit
of the shadow, of a life
that could be theirs.

If I hope readers will take one thing away from this piece, it's that one should always have something to look forward to, that one should always exult in life's vibrant beauty. Otherwise, life is just the passage of time, alongside which one falls to dull the pain, and to snatch at wisps of dreams.
