The Butterfly Effect

In the calm before the storm,
A butterfly drifts by on a gentle breeze
And with a flap of its wings, sets off.
A haunting melody plays over the treetops
As a hot wind sweeps in, fast and ruthless
Swirling in circles and flinging everything out of its path.
Lives are uprooted in the blink of an eye
As the tornado whirls past, sucking souls into its core
Leaving hollow-eyed refugees to survey the wreckage
And pray that they live to see the dawn.
In the calm after the storm,
A butterfly drifts by on a gentle breeze
Trailing broken wings behind.
