My Game
It's the championship and the second overtime.
I'm standing there
In the middle
Waiting for my break away.
I can't go up,
I can't go back.
So I stand in the middle.
While I wait,
I'm screaming.
Screaming at the top of my lungs.
I need to yell,
To get in their heads
Tell them what to do.
It works!
The ball is controlled,
Taken up,
And passed to me.
I know it's my time
And day
To shine.
I can feel
the sweat coming down my face,
Rolling to my eyes.
I can feel the eyes
Watching me and my every move.
They watch
And cheer.
I feel pressure
Behind me,
But not in front.
I speed up to lose them behind.
It's me and the ball,
And all that’s between me and the goal is the goalie.
I know I can do it.
One more dribble,
One more pass
To the side.
Right then
And there I feel all eyes on me.
Side pass,
And then
The big kick.
I can feel the air
Behind the ball
And I see it flying in the air.
I follow it for back up.
It hits the goalie,
And comes back.
I sprint and tackle the ball.
I slide and I can feel the cold,
Wet,
Slimy,
Muddy grass.
It feels good
To slide and get dirty.
To feel the rush
Of the winning moment.
The ball, well, Duh
I won it and scored
The winning goal.
The game is over
And the victory feels good.
I feel like a hero
During my time.
My game,
My life.
