The Old Barn Beam
Standing tall and proud; watching;
Once needed and important.
Underneath: life, death, and growing wealth;
Sometimes being leaned upon for rest.
Time passes, new advances,
Harder workers, more pain, less reward.
Changing, less straight, more aches
Beginning to lean, but never break.
New times, old memories still last,
But laughter and play existing.
Light peeking through growing gaps,
Cobwebs succeeding play no more.
Water creeps; soaked;
Drying out; cracked.
Revving of an engine;… departed.
