What's Left
Once golden, but now browned
the rigs which sap once made
vibrant and sturdy, now drained out
and weathered, aged old.
Dried and split
past solid and rugged.
This pine stood living and dead
in character proud
painted before but now retired
sage and jaded after centuries past.
Standing, sitting, resting
stained and silent.
My knotted old pine.
Memories are left of
what once was.
Cheery through the gloom
now a family treasure to help
remember our heritage.
