Conquering a Fear
Outside in the frigid cold,
mass chaos erupts around me.
Children scream and laugh,
having the time of their lives,
but, I am terrified.
I climb high into the air,
I try not to look down
for there is no turning back.
Anticipation grows in the pit of my stomach
as I crawl my way to the other side.
The dark wiry tunnel
I’m cradled in begins to swing
left and right.
I can’t help but notice
the smell of crisp firewood and marsh mellows
burning below me.
When I reach the end and look back,
I wonder why,
I had been so terrified to begin with.
