Sweet Dreams
When it's all over
And there's nothing left
That I can say or do
My heart, forlorn and bereft
A last look, I memorize your face
And then I turn away.
I whisper softly
So you can't hear me say
"Sweet dreams" to you.
A tear rolls silently down my cheek
As even more quietly still, I add
"I'll always love you."
And as soon as I try
To erase you from my mind
My heart betrays me
As if from behind enemy lines
Thoughts of you invade
Penetrating, piercing my soul
Of memories so sweetly made
Remembering those times with you.
Only then, feeling complete, feeling whole.
