A Selfish Soldier

I am a soldier
Not a soldier who fights for land
Not a soldier who fights for her country
Not a soldier who fights for the world
But I am a soldier nonetheless

I am a soldier
A soldier who despises the explosion of a gunshot
The Bang! Of the bullet pounding into an innocent bystander.
A soldier who seeing blood of another makes her skin crawl,
Like the screeching nails against a pristine black chalkboard.
A soldier who hates seeing strangers crawl into an underground cave,
Cradling their teary eyed child
But I am a soldier nonetheless

I am a soldier
You may say I'm selfish for wanting
You may say I'm wrong for thinking
But am I wrong for wanting freedom?
Am I wrong for thinking that I am entitled to a voice?

I fight for what I believe
I fight when the time is right
I fight without fright
I fight without guns and violence
I fight without lying
I fight without dying
I fight for me,
And only me
I am a soldier
A soldier of life
