A Hidden Garden

A maze of flowers stretch for miles
beyond a tall, wooden gate, hiding this wonderful
secret garden behind its dark shape;
a grey sidewalk is covered by a blanket of fallen leaves

Fountains shaped with lion heads and small angels are scattered
in different places inside the secret garden;
pink, red, and orange roses climb the walls like ivy
Gardenias reach up to soak up the sun’s warmth and golden light
Azaleas, irises, lilies, tulips, and yellow daisies line up against the wall as if they are soldiers competing for the sun’s attention

In another corner brightly colored pansies and lilacs sit next to each other like old friends or neighbors,
waving to chrysanthemums, a small gathering of Baby’s breath, and a tall camellia tree that grows higher than the wall, as if it wants to reach the milky-white stars of the Heavens.
