Rub it in my face

Between the sexual and the disgust
The vulgar and the lust
The want and the must
Like a dollar between her bust

The crustaceans and the amphibians come from both ends to battle it out
You laugh and I sit in dismay
because I can’t believe you would say
I’m not the one
You rub it in my face
when you talk about her and her and her
and you don’t talk to me
Your love was supposed to be forever
not to be
then, not now, maybe again in the future
Forever doesn’t fluctuate
I’m sure you have the capability, ability to fall in love
but the thing is that girl will never be me
She will never be me
And that’s the hardest thing
To not be in your dreams
not have your mind set on me

You had a time and a place
And so did I
But the hour glass ran out of sand
Too long or too soon?
The time passed, but it wasn’t spent
But maybe there wasn’t enough of it
Maybe two years wasn’t enough
Maybe I needed decades for you to love me still
But I can’t will it
You have to give in
Instead you gave up
Though I caused this
I caused your love to fade
when I, when I fell in love for the very first time
I chose him over everything
And in choosing him, I chose to lose you

So when I lean against the car,
cigarette in hand
looking hotter than the fire that could rekindle the flame inside your heart
It is no use
The flame is burnt out to me
Your heart is closed to me
So blow back the ashes in my face
Rub it all in my face
