Artwork of Our Hands
With the work of our hands
We could modify the shapes of planets
And if you listen with forethought
You can hear the reverb
Created off each stroke of piano keys
I can build every inch of this scene we’ve discovered
Pouring countless buckets of sand and water
To form the beach and shore
It’s like a picture framed by fancy, elegant material
No artwork is ever finished
But we can make an exception for this one
This fluorescent photograph
Completion and Perfection
Redefined by the sight
Of you and your feet engraved into the cold, wet sand
You softly placed your fervent, pale hand into my palm
Closing the hollow, crepuscular cave
By intertwining your fragile fingers with mine
We put the pieces of an abstract puzzle back together
But we fathom
That a special pause in time
Can never be retrospect
So let the seagulls shimmy
And the beach sway
Because I comprehend
This moment will never come again
