I meant to tell you
I meant to tell you, before I forgot:
There are worse things than being wrong
and
I mean to tell you, before I forget;
The things that once mattered are inconsequential
I remember digging tunnels with you,
Becoming submerged in sticky substances
That inhibit ideas and initiatives,
Consuming any hope of progress or realization
I remember your disappointingly inquisitive nature
The questions you ask led only to inevitable explanations
I remember your place in nature,
And how you confused it with something more prominent
I meant to tell you, before I forgot;
There are graver crimes than being wrong
