Clear As Glass
My friend,
You act like I can’t see through you
Like you’re unpredictable and strange
Yet you’re as clear as spotless glass
And I don’t know the best way to say
Like the glass, you can be transparent
I know the next words you might say
Like the glass, you express little emotion
Your feelings seem confused and vague
Like the glass, things go right through you
I don’t think you really try to listen to my side
But yet, you aren’t like the glass
Sometimes you act like you don’t have heart
I know it’s buried in there somewhere
In your mind, even when it’s totally sad
Sometimes, you music expresses exactly what you hide
And it tells stories that you don’t even share
Like the small joys that you pretend you don’t have
Sometimes, you laugh without restriction
Expressing all that’s hidden under your cold façade
Your outer image of smooth, breakable glass
People tell me you’re so fragile
When really you aren’t; how can you be glass?
So, all I have to say is
You act like I can’t see through you
Like you’re a chunk of immovable granite
Yet you’re as clear as spotless glass,
My friend
