"What can I say? I'm me."

A tear falls down my cheek, silently caressing my face
A tear that blinds my eyes
Embedding my thoughts of happiness to the ground,
Locking the sensation of freedom, that I so long ago had
Now in a prison of my own creation
My prison that erupted with the loss of you…

My mother, my hero, my role model
Who due to fate’s laughter
Was taken hostage
Away from a then five year old girl
Away from her aspirations
Away from the comforts of having a family
Away from the clutches of a warm embrace
Away from the crying tears, that I cry
So often like a ritual

Now, always and
Away from me
Due to the crashing of machines
Industry’s precious creation,
That took her life
And spared the others
From death, from internal misery
From my having to boundlessly endure the pain,
Of losing one of the best things in my life-
My mom

The author's comments:
This piece is just to acknowledge the pain that I go through everyday in my life, having lost my mother nine years ago in a car accident. I also wanted to share this experience, this nightmare with others, and to just express that I loved my mom, and that though I miss her, she will always have a place in my heart.
