quicksilver girls
she was a quicksilver girl,
you know the type.
all frayed jeans and glitter lips
trying to be somebody
without being somebody.
it's a little hard to accomplish.
wrapped herself in mysteries
cloak, dagger and all the rest
covered her trails and
forgot where she stepped on purpose-
just to see if she could find the way again on her own.
a self-test for some cause that no one knew.
sometimes she could.
sometimes she couldn't-
got lost in her own designs.
had to rely on her others
to fish her out again.
but as everyone knows,
it's as hard to hold on to quicksilver
as it is to be somebody, these days.
