Just an orange x on the wall;
Alone in a big place.
As people pass by,
Do they really see you?
All you wish for,
Is to be covered by a fresh coat of paint.
As unimportant as the x may seem;
It is still a part of the wall.

The author's comments:
I was inspired to write this poem, by a field trip I did with my writing class around the school. We were told to look at things that stood out to us and see where those things could take us with our thoughts. I happened to stumble across this huge orange x on one of our walls; it looked like spray paint had been sprayed there. That got me thinking about a bunch of different things, which lead me to write "Alone in a Big Place."
