For What
I accomplish the tasks with diligence and a smile, but for what.
I fight my way to the top exhausting myself within an inch of my life, but for what.
I dodge each obstacle they so relentlessly cast at me, but for what?
Is it to please those who peer over me day and night making sure it's finished.
Is it to reinforce the hopes that one day I will return to the place I love.
Or is it the mere nature of us humans, to eat or be eaten.
For what?
As I sit and ponder so endlessly
I have discovered for what,
Only I, the one who has so suddenly fallen into despair, is aware.
But I may not share, for all my good efforts can't even compare.
