Never Again

February 28, 2010
The warm sun beating down on us,
His hand wrapped around mine,
His soothing voice promising me it would be okay,
His smile making me smile,
His weird jokes making me giggle,
I thought our days together would never end.

That was before I got a phone call from his mother,
Telling me he'd been hit by a car,
And was in critical condition.

I ran to the hospital to see him,
But I was too late.

I sat in the waiting room,
Thinking to myself.

His hand would never again wrap around mine,
His soothing voice would never again promise me it would be okay,
His smile would never again make me smile,
His weird jokes would never again make me giggle,
And, worst of all,
I now knew our days together would end,
Because they already had.
