Not Entirely Gone

I never knew you
But people say
I am just like you

You were a friend
A child
A cousin

You were smart
And caring
And kind

You left this world
At a young age
You should have not been there

On that terrible day
On a field trip that took your life away
That day on a ride
That burned to the ground

Nothing of you was left
Only your body was found beside your friend
Dangling from your neck
Was your gold chain your father gave you

Everyone wished you never left
Everyone wished you lived
Everyone missed you
I’ll never know you

But my dad says I’m just like you
I’m glad to be
I guess you could say I’m like
Your living memory
