Oppressed Light, Expressed Night
It’s 7 PM on a newly darkened eve,
And I witnessed a suppression,
A depression-
I saw the smothering
Of the bright, white light.
I could tell by the way
the clouds first turned pink-
Down, down, down
Behind the Earth the sun began to sink;
Pushed by the Night,
Forgetting all its might,
Losing all its fight,
Down went the sun and its exposing light,
Down sank the sun to grief and the Night.
Darkness and its many shades
Splayed across a sunless sky,
While the crickets confirmed corruption
With their night-time cry
And I saw the smothering
Of the bright, white light;
Just another incident on this
Shadowed, shady Earth,
Another corrupted, crooked birth;
Sitting outside on this oppressed eve,
Too many parallels, depressed,
I must leave.
