Relations With Ed

It takes over your body
It takes over your brain
It controls all your actions
It controls all your pain

It treats you like royalty
It treats you like trash
You think you're recovered
It throws you into relapse

If you give it an inch
It will wiggle in a mile
You're nothing but a puppet
It has you in denial

It tells you you're fine
You don't need help
It says it's your friend
But can you trust it in the end?

It's the voice in your head
It says you don't need to be fed
It's the fear of your feelings
And it's name is ED

The author's comments:
Written when I was struggling with illness, this poem expresses my frustrations toward eating disorders. Having been struggling with a misdiagnosed eating disorder for about 3 years at this point, I was desperate for a way to release feelings of anger, sorrow, and aloneness.
