Backstage I stand,
behind the never ending
curtain (my warm, velvet security
blanket).
The auditorium goes black.
I’m on.
I hear my cue in the music,
and walk out onto the stage.
My heart, like the engine of a race
car, accelerates


with





each




step.
The spotlight blazes like the sun, catalyzing a
reaction inside my body, sending
blood to my face.
I take what seems like an eternal breath.

my back transmitting a tingling
sensation to my fingertips.
