I wake up early to a darkened sky
And hear the children with their nightmares cry
But a kiss and a hug is all they need
To fall back into a deeper sleep
I work for hours at an endless job
And see the workers with their painful throbs
But rest and food is all they need
So their families need not plead
I walk the road less traveled on
And hear not the birds in cheerful song
But a quiet ear is all they need
To sing their glory for their King
I stay awake in the night
And hear the prayers said with all their might
But alas I can not give
To those who refuse to believe I live.
