"If you aren't doing a good enough job making me feel special, I'll just fire you and hire someone who can do it better"

Basking in the sun
I feel as if my life
has no meaning at all

I sit, gray and dumb
waiting for something

I slowly start to sink
knowing, yet unaware

My life is ending, in great
swallows of heat; I burn

The final turn, one last look
at the life I’m leaving behind
Crack! Then darkness

But wait, I am being stirred

Has God decided my life has meaning?

I am found, not dead
but renewed. Finally I awake
to brightness, joy, laughter

I was broken, but love has filled
the cracks that Hell bestowed

In class the teacher sat some random items around on desks, saying "pick the object closest to you and write about it". I picked the plain, gray rock that had been broken by a volcanic explosion and then kept together by crystal formation inside the rock's cracks. This poem is its story. The way the poem was written allows it to stand completely alone without the knowledge of the rock.
