Beginning

I imagine that
It must have been so quiet when the world began
Mist rising
So solemn and thin against the bare crags of shoreline
Holding vigil
Where translucent skies empty of birds hang overhead
No moss
Growing on the boulders where pearly waves lap
Clear as
Crystal slowly forming, the absence of everything so obvious
When there
Is no sound
Except for the lapping of the waves
And the hiss of an unseen wind

Imagine now
Dipping toes into water untouched by life before
Unfearing of
What swims below, attracted by your call
Breathe deep
Of air that has never known dust, smoke, taint of civilization
Gently touch
Dark cold stone barely introduced to erosion
In all its
Burning, rough, and primordial existance
Something feels
Like the entire world is holding its breath
Waiting for
Something, perhaps something like life
To thrive
Covering land
So animated where inanimate is ruler
Under the touch of a young yellow sun

I imagine that
It must have been so clear in the beginning
Where nothing had been dark before
