Chains held tightly, around my neck. You are my god and my devil.
I hate you,I say to go away. But you do not, You are my sickness, you are my health.
You grant me freedom and you cost me wealth. I have control
Of all that is lost, When I take you my pain turns off. Depression hidden deeply ,
Underneath a sheet of blissful apathy; I fall once more into the beloved poppy.
Understanding was lost with the era of divorced mom’s and cheating dads, Adolescents worth,
Suddenly lost in the dying days of Vicodin, and all the sin.
When all is lost, I found you to dull my pain, I take another and fall again,
To the world I’ve come to love, my depression growls, caged beneath your apathetic chains
Clenched so tighly round’ my neck…

I wrote this reminiscing on my addiction to opiates that lasted for a long year, and I still feel the biting repercussions of that addiction from time to time.
