Memories

Too bad the sun sets too fast,
In the winter leaving no time for walks,
Or snowball fights after school,
Too bad the spring flowers erupt from the ground before anyone notices,
And misses the miracle of survival of a tiny plant lasting all winter,
Too bad summer, like a shooting star, flies by too quick,
Leaving me wanting more of the firefly-catching,
Campfire-sitting nights in the humid air,
Too bad the leaves change brown so suddenly,
Making me wish I had payed attention to them transform,
From green to crimson red, fire orange, or banana yellow,
Too bad the snow melts so immediately,
That sledding only happens once or twice each year,
When the tiny flakes finally cover the grass with a foot thick blanket,
Too bad childhood is gone before you know it,
Leaving me with a feeling of emptiness and loss,
Of those days in the park,
Or biking down the road,
Or picking dandelions for Grandma,
Too bad, just like the seasons, memories only last so long,
And that I can’t remember Grandpa’s face anymore,
Or Mama’s smile,
Or Daddy’s voice,
Too bad imagination has an expiration date,
Too bad.

Lots of people go through an entire lifetime without realizing all that you just said. Your poems are like beautiful quilts with colorful images woven throughout. Keep writing. I truly believe it is your Gift right from Heaven!

I really like the description you used in your poem. It's very realistic and I like that about it. Keep up the good work.

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
~Michael Jordan

I LOVE!!!!! making this a favorite because i think about this all the time. I have so many amazing memories from childhood that i wish i had back. Funny how when we're little all we want is to grow up and fall in love and become a teacher, and when we finally do grow up all we want is to go back. If all you think about is growing up, youll grow up to fast...

Excellent as usual sarbear! I love that line,"Too bad imagination has an expiration date." I think I'm going to laugh every day of my life and slow down a little to appreciate the good times spent with friends and family.

This poem should remind everyone to slow down and really appreciate each day and all the wonders that each special day contains.
