Have a Beer…
Standing at a party laughing with some friends
All goofing off this is how it should end
I am 17 and totally clean so why did I do this?
This one cute guy on whom I had my eye offered me a beer
I took it, why not?
Because it is wrong…so what I probably won’t get caught
I drink the beer, it tasted good so I have another…understood?
Slowly but surely, I start to fade
My troubles run and it feels great
I drink and drink until I cannot anymore not even caring of what tomorrow has in store
My emotions become strong and I cannot figure out what is going on
I start to cry, where am I, what is going on?
Its half past two that next morning
It is cold and hard here
I look up and see iron bars and think, “How did I get here?”
I do not remember the cops coming last night or them taking me here
I am scared and alone
I want to go home
Then I see my mom and dad here
They shake their heads with tears in their eyes
Their sadness comes as a surprise
I thought they would be angry and harsh
I never expected to see them so beaten and lost
That night changed my life and all it started with was, “Have a beer!”
Yet, somehow I ended up here….
