I wish I was your hero
The saviour of your day
She who saved you from the fire
Not she who watched from a mile away.

I wish I could be brave
And stand up for you in a crowd
The girl who didn’t stutter and fall
But she who spoke clear and loud.

I wish I could self sacrifice
Do a brave deed
She who fought for her country
Not for her own need

I wish I could be smart
Intelligent as the day is long
Not just your dumb friend
But she who knows right from wrong

I wish I could be wise
The cunning Mrs. Clever
A mother for our children
Not plain old me forever
