love or hate
dry kindling piled up over time
until someone
a stranger, a passer-by,
another human with some connection to the site
comes and drops a match
and the potential energy becomes kinetic
there is movement
flames erupt and lighten and warm
others are brought towards the spectacle
like insects to a lamp
each alike in the idea that
they never want the comforting light, the warmth,
the fire,
to be put out
