That sound
it's so sweet
Beating to the rhythm
of my heart beat
Splinters pierce
from my head to my feet
As I listen to the sound
that drum creates
So sweet

The author's comments:
During the summer I spent a couple weeks camping on the Big Eddy river. I met an old native Wampanoag and every morning he would wake up and play his drum. To the Wabanaki people this is a ritual, waking the sun and bringing warmth to the earth.
