What I've Lost
You can kick me when I’m down and spit in my eye,
You can mock everything I do and tell every single lie.
But when the time comes to end this whole damn fight,
Everything is left behind as I remember what is right.
The courage to stand up is the courage to stand tall,
The courage to keep going is the courage to never fall.
Everything inside of me says to run from the whole world,
But I’m never going to run, not while this is all unfurled.
You’ve started a game that you can’t keep playing,
And the only support in this twisted war is praying.
When spoken words do more than a knife or gun,
What will the prize be when all of this is done?
Pride is the hardest to swallow when all that comes back up is shame,
When you strike me down I’ll rise again, and beat you at your game.
The day that you all realize that no one can win or lose,
Will also be the day that we all share these same views.
I know I’ll never give up as the blood flows over my swollen gums,
And I can feel the intensity in the air as my heart beats like one thousand drums.
Keep fighting a war that should never have begun while your ignorance is still bliss,
But someday you’ll look back on everything and think of me, so just remember this.
I’ll stand up for what I think is right, no matter what the cost,
I’ll cry for what I know is gone but fight for what I’ve lost.
