"Playing life by ear"

Remember walking?
I don’t,
Not anymore,
Not after what happened,
The metal crashing into my back,
The loud sound that came from the black object,
The screams that ran past my ears,
Thinking that I was dying,
Felling nothing,
People stepped on me,
I didn’t move,
I couldn’t move,
It came closer,
The one who hit me,
And it laughed,
Filled with hatred,
And I cried,
Knowing that this was the end,

Someone took me to a different room,
Someone saved me,
But they could only save half,
I was only half now,
My family cried,
But I didn’t
I couldn’t,
I was all out of tears,

I am in a chair,
A metal, hard chair,
And I won’t run,
I don’t,
I can’t,
And it hurts,
Knowing that that was what you loved,

So do I remember walking,
No,
I don’t,
I can’t.

My friend was in a shooting and this is what happened to her. I interviewed her and then turned her words around into this poem.

I love this poem and are you actually in a wheelchair or is this fictional?
