Change
I am a leaf, among thousands of other leaves like me.
We are together in this tree, looking green.
The warm breeze makes us dance.
And I feel good.
This is where I belong.
The warmth turns to cold;
winds chill me, as the sun disappears.
I change in color.
From green to light green,
I don’t feel like myself anymore.
From light green to pale yellow,
not fitting in with the rest of the tree,
among the still green leaves.
From pale to bright yellow, it’s time to go.
And I fall, fall, fall to the lonely ground.
Then I come to realize,
leaves like me surround me:
yellows, oranges, browns, and reds.
Our colors are different,
but in the end we are all leaves.
The cool fall breeze swirls us in the air,
And wherever I go, I can be,
nothing other,
than me.
